Child Killed in Suspected Dog Attack Was Baby Girl
Police confirmed the death of a three-month-old girl in a suspected dog attack in Redcar. The incident occurred at an address on Hardale Grove, Dormanstown, shortly after 1:30 PM BST on Thursday. Officers were dispatched following reports of concern for the child.
Two dogs were reportedly destroyed by armed personnel during the event—one on the street and another at the property. A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to act dangerously out of control, leading to fatal injuries. He has been released on conditional bail.
Meanwhile, a 31-year-old woman sustained a bite on her arm and received medical attention at a hospital. Both dogs were evaluated by a specialist officer, who stated they did not belong to a banned breed.
“Our thoughts remain with the child’s family during this tragic and distressing event,” said Ch Supt Rachel Stockdale, head of local policing. “We will maintain a police presence at the location as the investigation continues. I urge everyone to respect their privacy during this challenging period.”
The force is appealing for any information, including video footage, from the public to assist with the case.
