The location of the car suggested that Hooper had successfully reached the trailhead and begun her ascent.

Initial investigations revealed that Hooper likely reached the summit of Bonnum Pic during mid-morning on Wednesday. However, no further communication has been received from her since that time. The multi-agency response has brought together local police officers, regional Police Rescue teams, NSW Ambulance personnel, Fire and Rescue NSW crews, State Emergency Service members, and relatives of the missing teenager.

Defence force personnel contributed to the search effort on Friday, deploying drones and an ambulance helicopter to cover ground from above. Specialist rescuers, including trail-bike riders capable of navigating rough terrain, also participated in the operation. A NSW police spokesperson confirmed that fresh teams arrived at the park at 7am on Saturday, with search activities continuing through the night.

Det Insp Benjamin Bowles expressed that while authorities remain concerned for Hooper’s wellbeing, they are maintaining a positive outlook. He emphasized that Hooper is an experienced hiker, which provides some reassurance regarding her ability to navigate challenging conditions.

“We have not been able to fully confirm what supplies [Hooper] had with her at the time, but we are still hopeful that we will be able to locate her safe and sound.”

Bowles added that there is no indication suggesting this situation extends beyond a standard case of an overdue hiker.

NSW Premier Chris Minns addressed the media on Friday, expressing his support for Hooper’s family during this difficult period.

“Our heart goes out to that young walker’s family. We know this must be heartbreaking and incredibly anxious.”
