Pitbull and Thousands of Fans Make History with Bald Cap Gathering in London

A Record-Breaking Afternoon in Hyde Park

Rapper Pitbull and fans set bald – Wearing a snug plastic cap might not seem like the most comfortable choice when temperatures soar to 30 degrees Celsius, yet an extraordinary crowd proved otherwise. On a warm Friday afternoon, 22,141 enthusiastic attendees gathered in Hyde Park, London, donning matching ensembles of white shirts, black ties, aviator sunglasses, and those distinctive bald caps. The BST festival’s headliner, rapper Pitbull, was the inspiration behind this massive coordinated effort, which simultaneously served as a tribute and a bid for official recognition.

The gathering aimed to claim the title of the largest assembly of individuals wearing bald caps. Pitbull, naturally bald himself, had to don a cap to qualify for the count. Will Munford, the official Guinness World Records adjudicator, explained that this was not a record for the largest gathering of bald people, so Mr Worldwide needed to wear a cap to be included in the total.

“400 volunteers to individually check people” were deployed at entrances and throughout the venue, while “drone footage with 42 counters backstage” ensured accuracy, according to Munford.

From TikTok to World Record

The concept originated not from festival organizers, the rapper, or the record-keeping organization, but from an ordinary fan. Jack Remmington, a podcast host and cultural commentator, took credit for the entire phenomenon. When BST revealed Pitbull’s performance date the previous year, Remmington shared a humorous TikTok video proposing that the venue’s 65,000 capacity was more than sufficient to surpass the existing world record for people cosplaying as the Cuban-American artist.

“This whole thing is happening because of me,” Remmington joked when reflecting on the viral moment.

The video quickly gained traction online, leading to conversations with Guinness World Records and a call to Pitbull through BBC Radio 1 host Greg James. The rapper’s enthusiastic response was simply “Dale!”—Spanish for “hit it” or “go ahead,” which also happens to be the title of one of his albums.

Fans Scramble for Caps

Demand for the caps intensified as the event approached, leaving many attendees in a frantic search. Lucy, aged 30, attended with her best friend Hannah to see Pitbull perform for the third time. She visited three separate costume shops throughout the week, only to find every location sold out.

“I went to three different fancy dress shops this week and they were all sold out,” Lucy shared, explaining her fear of standing out. “I had worried they’d stick out like a sore thumb if we were the only people in a sea of bald caps without one. It feels like an inside joke with 60,000 people.”

A Growing Cultural Movement

Munford emphasized that the record was not merely a novelty attempt. The decision to officiate stemmed from both the massive participation numbers and the opportunity for everyday people to experience record-breaking moments. A dedicated grassroots community had already formed around Pitbull mimicry, beginning in 2021 when a handful of fans appeared as playful lookalikes at concerts.

Social media videos propelled the trend into a widespread movement, making it commonplace to see attendees dressed like Mr Worldwide at his shows. The Cuban-American rapper has fully embraced the phenomenon, officially naming his supporters “baldies” and offering merchandise including the Mr Worldwide Kit for £40 and individual bald caps for £10, both currently sold out.

“It’s the least pretentious crowd I’ve ever been in at a gig,” said Shawna, a 33-year-old attendee wearing a bald cap alongside her bald friend Jack.

Shawna and Jack, neither of whom are devoted Pitbull fans, attended seeking a nostalgic evening of joy. “The world is literally burning, so why wouldn’t I stick a bald cap on and dance around to some pop bangers I loved at uni to feel something good?” she reflected.

Pitbull’s Emotional Response

As evening approached and the rapper stepped onto the stage, he appeared genuinely surprised by the sea of impersonators singing along to every word. Acknowledging the significance of the occasion, he expressed his gratitude.

“I’m speechless. Who would have thought a first-generation Cuban would be record-breaking and record-making?” Pitbull exclaimed while accepting the award in an all-black suit.

“It’s a blessing and an honour to see the baldies in London,” he added, visibly moved by the turnout.

The successful record attempt demonstrated how internet culture, fan dedication, and a sense of community can converge to create something truly special, transforming a simple costume idea into a moment of global recognition for both the artist and his devoted followers.
