Four killed in second Turkish school shooting in two days

A school in southern Turkey reported at least four fatalities and multiple injuries following a shooting at Ayser Calik Secondary School in the Kahramanmaras region. Local media confirmed the attack, though details about the victims and the shooter remain unclear. The governor of Kahramanmaras, Mukerrem Unluer, stated that 20 individuals were wounded during the incident, with some in critical condition.

Shooter’s arsenal and motive under investigation

The attack occurred just days after a similar incident at another high school in the same southern area, where an ex-student opened fire before taking his own life, injuring 16 people. Officials have not yet determined the reason behind Wednesday’s attack, prompting a thorough inquiry into the events. Turkish media indicated the perpetrator entered two classrooms armed with five firearms and seven ammunition clips, reportedly inherited from his father.

“The sound of gunfire was very intense,” a reporter for Turkish broadcaster NTV said, adding that there was “panic in front of the school.”

Videos captured from the location displayed a chaotic scene with onlookers, including individuals recording with their phones, and emergency vehicles departing swiftly. The second incident has raised concerns about security measures in educational institutions across the region.
