Man who threw girlfriend from tower block jailed
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison for hurling his girlfriend from a tower block’s fourth floor. Jordan Herring, from Solihull, was convicted of wounding during a trial at Birmingham Crown Court. His actions left the 18-year-old victim, Bobbie Goodman, with severe injuries requiring hospitalization.
The incident occurred in November 2022 at Merton House in Chelmsley Wood. Goodman fell from Herring’s mother’s flat, sustaining a collapsed lung and fractures to her pelvis, spine, and ribs. Emergency services were called over an hour after the event, according to the jury.
“It was very dehumanising,” Goodman told the BBC. “I couldn’t move, couldn’t walk, couldn’t wash myself. I really thought I might never walk again.” She described the trauma of the attack and expressed deep resentment towards Herring, who she claimed ruined her life. “I have a lot of hatred for this man. He’s made me not want to trust another man ever again. But I hope someday, I will.”
Herring’s mother, Kerrie-Anne Grogan, called emergency services in distress, pleading: “I couldn’t call the ambulance… I should’ve done it ages ago but he’s my son. I’m scared he’s gonna get a knife and kill her.” The trial revealed that Herring had already been convicted of coercive and controlling behavior against Goodman. He described their relationship as “toxic,” explaining that the argument on the night of the incident centered around accusations of cheating.
Officers highlighted the woman’s courage in recounting her ordeal. Herring was jailed on Monday for both wounding and coercive behavior charges. The case underscores the lasting impact of domestic abuse, with authorities commending her for speaking out against the abuse she endured.
