Four Teens Arrested in Connection with Fatal Stabbing of 16-Year-Old Boy
Cambridgeshire Police have detained four teenagers following the death of a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed during an attack near the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough. The incident occurred shortly before 7 PM BST on Sunday, when emergency services were alerted to a teenager being attacked in Riseholme. The school adjacent to the scene, St John’s Church School, temporarily closed as a result of the “serious incident.”
Authorities have charged a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man from Peterborough with murder. Two additional suspects, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl, were arrested on suspicion of aiding the offender. The 16-year-old girl from March was also charged with possessing a blade. All four remain in police custody.
A photograph captured a substantial police deployment near the Ortongate Shopping Centre on Sunday evening. A significant security barrier still surrounds the area on Monday, with heightened patrols expected for the coming days. Some floral tributes have been placed alongside the cordon.
St John’s Church School confirmed in an email that “police are currently securing the site in close proximity to the school,” prompting the closure. The institution stated it would “keep monitoring the situation” and provide updates on when the facility might reopen. Meanwhile, the shopping centre operates normally, though its rear parking area is temporarily closed.
“This is a tragic incident which has led to the loss of a young man’s life,” said Det Ch Insp Richard Stott of the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit. “We are in contact with his family and ensuring they are kept informed. While the death will be troubling for the community, we do not believe this was a random act and will maintain a strong police presence in the area.”
